Four of the mobile homes overlook the lake. Ruthie’s is a small place with a lot of down home atmosphere and Southwest Texas hospitality. It is a great place for a vacation, weekend fishing, hunting, water skiing trip, or even a family reunion. Ruthie, founder of Ruthie's Rentals

Memorial for Ruthie

Ruthella (Ruthie) Minatra of Rough Canyon, Del Rio, Texas, passed away surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, in San Angelo Community Hospital. There was a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 3, in the Sonora Cemetery led by Ray Wells followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. in Rough Canyon Park on Lake Amistad.

Ruthie was born in Dallas, Texas, on Jan. 5, 1947, to Joan and Milton Nicholas. Ruthie's greatest loves were her business, her family and sharing time with her many friends. She lived her life mostly in Ozona, Eldorado, Sonora and the Rough Canyon community. In Eldorado, she was very active in the community by organizing the local American Cancer Society unit where she volunteered on the local, district and state levels. She was chairman of the Bi-Centennial Celebration in 1976, was a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi and worked for Schleicher County Medical Center and also was the activities director for the nursing home there. She married Kenneth Minatra on April 7, 1987, where they, as a team oRuthie's Memorial lake amistad cabins, lake amistad rentals, lake amistead cabins, lake amistad hunting, lake amistad fishing, lake amistad rentalswned the Rough Canyon Motel and Store and the Devils River Boat Shop until 2000. Ruthie and Kenneth then opened Ruthie's Mobile Home Park (Ruthie's Rentals) and boat storage. If you only met Ruthie once, you would never forget her. She had a wonderful gift of making people laugh and having them feel loved. She was a great nurturer to all of her friends and deeply touched many lives. Ruthella is survived by her son, Nick Dacy of Wichita Falls; sons Eddie Minatra and wife Anissa of Hawley, Gary Minatra and wife Loli of Andrews and James Minatra and wife Diane of Abilene; her mother, Joan Nicholas of Brownwood; Sister Jennifer Newton of Brownwood; and seven wonderful grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carrie Ann Dacy; her father, Milton (Nick) Nicholas; and her husband, Kenneth Minatra. Many people were dear to Ruthie's heart and she considered them family. You knew who you were because she told you so. Some of those dear friends will be serving as pallbearers - Curtis Hobbs, Jordan Reyes, John Ronsbiz, Rick Kissko, Rick Giles and Landon Minatra. Kenneth Leo Minatra, 61, went to be with his Lord on Friday, Feb.22, 2002. Kenneth was born Aug. 21, 1940, in Abilene to N.J. and Nora Swindle Minatra. He is survived by his wife, Ruthella Minatra; his four children, James Minatra and wife, Diane, of Abilene, Gary Minatra and wife, Loli, of Andrews, Eddie Minatra and wife, Anisa, of Clyde, and Nick Dacy of Wichita Falls; two brothers, Jim Minatra of Abilene and Coy Minatra of Oklahoma City. Pa Pa Trees loved all nine of his grandchildren, Lindsey, Candice, Chase, Landon, Blake, Ashley, Morgan and Kamden and Jake.

Kenneth worked for Wes-Tex Drilling for 20 years, was also the owner Of Minatra Enterprises and part-owner of Brooks Drilling in Sonora During the 1980s. When the oil crunch of the 80s hit, a new life began at Rough Canyon on Lake Amistad. There he opened his boat repair shop and they bought Rough Canyon Inn and Country Store.

Kenneth loved his friends as well as his family. His and Ruthie’s homewas always open to everyone, and he loved to have a good time. Those who knew Kenneth knew he had a great sense of humor and his own special vocabulary. If he ever told you that you were cuter than a red wagon or a speckled pup, then you were really special. Soul mates are hard to find. Ruthie found hers in Kenneth and he will live in her and their children’s hearts forever. We love our Pa Pa Trees.

Ruthie had a heart as big as Texas
And eyes that would twinkle and shine
A laugh that won’t soon be forgotten
A truer friend will be hard to find.

She never met a stranger
Told everyone to “Come on in”
She was a daughter, a sister, a mother
an aunt, but to most of us she was a friend.

Ruthie loved living at the lake
No matter what time of the year.
Her favorite place was sitting on her deck
with the deer and rabbits near.

Bubba and Sissie, her two special dogs
Gave her comfort and lots of love
Can’t you see her smiling down at them now
from her new home up above?

We all know Ruthie could have her moments,
But they never lasted too long.
She was a loving, giving person
with a will that was very strong.

If anyone she knew was down on their luck
She wouldn’t hesitate to lend her last dime.
Didn’t make a difference whether they had been friends for life
or if she had only known them for a short time.

She was one of a kind and we will all miss her
and cherish the memories we will always share
But don’t be too sad she’s with Carrie and Kenneth
and don’t forget Lisa ----- now there’s a pair!

When it’s our turn to leave our bodies
and soar to heaven through the stars and milky way
We’ll have an amazing reunion
it will truly be an incredible day.

She’ll be the one with the biggest smile
We’ll hear her laughter before we see her.
Together, once again, with our wonderful friend
in God’s presence we will all live forever.
